Wow, did your article resonate with me. My first and last name has a total of 7 letters and I've always had to spell both my names when I meet people. When I say my name is Guy, most people hear "God". How is that even possible? Then they ask if Guy is my real name. It is. My last name has come out at Oles, Owens, Olfs, or Odes. It pissed me off so much when I was younger I had a restaurant name for reservations. I went by Roberts. Even Chinese restaurants understood Roberts. When I would go out to dinner with my parents, they knew to ask for Roberts at the maitre d' desk. They thought that was funny. Now that I'm retired, I don't give a shit as much. So I've gone back to using my real name.
